COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF AIRTRAQ OPTICAL LARYNGOSCOPE AND HUGE MED VIDEO LARYNGOSCOPE FOR LARYNGEAL VISUALISATION AND ENDOTRACHEAL INTUBATION IN ADULTS WITH ANTICIPATED DIFFICULT INTUBATION

Background and Aims: Complications arising from difficult or failed tracheal intubation still remains a leading cause of anaesthetic morbidity mortality.This has lead to development multiple novel laryngoscopes. This study was designed compare performance Airtraq optical laryngoscope with Huge Med Video for laryngeal visualisation endotracheal intubation. Material Methods: In this prospective randomized clinical study, seventy ASA grade I II patients aged 18-60 years either gender scheduled elective surgery under general anesthesia were randomly assigned into two groups:Group A group B in which laryngoscopy performed using laryngoscope(group A) HugeMed video B) respectively. The time taken number attempts along Cormack Lehane(CL) grading recorded. Heart rate blood pressure(SBP, DBP, MAP) recorded at predefined intervals. Result: Mean 15.3±11.791sec compared 34.1011±17.471sec B.Majority both groups intubated first attempt (97.1% 94.3% respectively). Patients remained haemodynamically stable the post period. On comparing ease intubation, majority had CL I, very few [6(17.1%)] [2(5.7%)] II. Conclusion: Both Hug laryngoscopes are effective devices high success although needed is shorter laryngoscope.
